The Swamp Grows More Putrid

Considering the current resident of the White House, one is tempted to draw the conclusion that we should be on the way up now that America has hit rock bottom when it comes to leadership.  And yet the worst is always just a Presidential address to come.

Barack Obama, “America’s Savior”, the rhetorical superstar, the luminous presence who sends a tingle up the leg of Chris Matthews and other media sycophants, the “great uniter” of a fragmented nation rift by divisiveness engendered by race, class envy and sundry other perceived inequities, seems determined to one-up his propensity for stirring the national pot towards the boiling point.

I refer to his latest pronouncement, that in his impeccable judgment marijuana should be legalized.  This boggles the mind in so many ways, not the least of which is that I would defy anyone to come up with a more inappropriate subject for the nation’s Chief Executive to publicly advocate.  Then again, from a self-confessed youthful pothead and admitted abuser of other illegal substances including cocaine, perhaps this attitude is self-explanatory.

Considering the hysterical outcry from the media during the 2000 Presidential campaign after it had been leaked that George W. Bush had once been charged with and convicted of a misdemeanor DUI charge in 1979, the media’s avoidance of Obama’s admitted lengthy record of substance abuse lends additional credibility to the well-documented tendency of the press to avoid dwelling on any detrimental aspects regarding the character of America’s own “Dear Leader”.  Even Dr. Charles Krauthammer, a trained psychiatrist and well-known columnist, has generally refrained from comment regarding the more neurotic (if not sociopathic) aspects of our country’s current titular head.

Of course if you look at what happens to anyone rash enough to consistently criticize Barack Obama, then you can understand the hesitancy.  Search no further than the charges brought against “conservative author” Dinesh D’Souza who was indicted Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York on federal charges of “violating campaign finance laws by using straw donors to funnel money to a U.S. Senate candidate.”  “This office and the FBI take a zero tolerance approach to corruption of the electoral process,” Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. “If, as alleged, the defendant directed others to make contributions to a Senate campaign and reimbursed them, that is a serious violation of federal campaign finance laws.”

Really?  And just how many “bundlers” of campaign funds for Obama have ever faced indictment and prosecution for the same alleged offense?

Mr. D’Souza should expect the next knock on the door to come from the IRS, who undoubtedly have already shifted their focus from harassment of conservative non-profit groups to this newest threat to the occupant of Barackingham Palace. Christine O’Donnell — a former Senate candidate from Delaware who rose to prominence amid heavy tea party backing — revealed to The Washington Times that she, too, had been audited and also had her personal tax information breached.  Ditto for Dr. Ben Carson who rose to immediate prominence with his recent criticisms of an administration that has fueled the “moral decay and fiscal irresponsibility” of the U.S. in recent years.

It all fits nicely into the pattern which has developed over the past five years.  Our country has lost the respect of the rest of the world due to the inept and impotent machinations of an administration headed by arguably the worst President in our history. As public support wanes (except for the slavish devotion of cronies and the recipients of the largess from innumerable government programs designed to create a devoted voting block) the narcissist who heads our nation continues to rule by executive fiat, circumnavigating the Constitution with apparent immunity and threatening Congress by intimating that unless they bow to his will, “I have a pen”.

If there are such things as ghosts, there must be a spectral horde of bewigged Founding Fathers, past Presidents, Legislative dignitaries and patriots of all stripes descending upon the Capitol as I write.  God knows, we need all of the help that we can get.

But …….. wait; is that the sound of rotors attached to a black helicopter that I hear?
